SARAH QUEEN
Sarah always wanted to dance. From the young age of 5 she remembers watching musicals and being entranced with the art in front of her. She finally got her opportunity to begin dancing in 8th grade, taking a hip hop class through the community center near her home. Once she entered high school, she joined the varsity cheerleading team while simultaneously being a part of glee club and musicals through the school and all star cheerleading off campus. Once entering college, Sarah expanded on her movement styles and now has a dance teaching certificate. Alongside her main focus of heels performance, she has trained extensively in modern, jazz, hip hop, and ballet. At 23, Sarah launched her own K-pop cover team. In addition, is an active board member of another K-pop performance team, Aurora. She has since earned impressive accolades, including a 3rd place finish at UCLA’s 2023 K Factor competition, and a finalist spot representing the USA at KCDF in 2024. She has even been featured on MBC America (youtube) twice for her contributions to the LA K-pop scene. With a passion for inspiring others through movement and creativity, Sarah’s classes are fun, engaging, and focused on improving stage presence, refining body lines, and mastering teamwork. When training with Sarah, students will learn dynamic K-pop choreography while developing the skills to shine in a team-based performance environment.
What’s a favorite memory from the early part of your career (particularly with the age groups you currently teach)?
One of my most treasured memories is the first dress rehearsal my inaugural group of students participated in. Seeing the dance they had worked so diligently on finally come together, complete with costumes and lighting, was a powerful moment. It was more than just the performance itself—it was the culmination of their effort, passion, and growth. Witnessing that transformation on stage was profoundly special.
Can you share a small story about what inspired you to pursue dance?
The drive to dance has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I begged to take classes, though financial constraints prevented it. When the opportunity arose as I entered college, I knew it was my moment to finally pursue the dream I had always held in my heart. Dance was never just a hobby for me; it felt like my purpose. I couldn’t imagine myself on any other path but performing, whether on stage or in front of the camera.
Who has been a significant figure in your dance journey (mentor, teacher, etc.)?
My first college dance professor, Victor, was an incredibly influential figure in my dance journey. Despite the competitive nature of the dance world, Victor consistently led with kindness and grace. His approach showed me that it’s possible to achieve your goals without compromising your integrity or compassion. His guidance taught me the importance of remaining true to myself while pursuing excellence.
What advice would you give to young dancers or to yourself when you first started?
You don’t have to be the most technically skilled dancer in the world to find success. What matters most is your passion for the art form and your dedication to improving. If you love dance, remain committed, and never give up, you will find a way to achieve your dreams. Hard work and perseverance will carry you far, even when talent alone might not.
What’s been the biggest challenge you've faced in your dance career, and how did you overcome it?
In 2019, I sustained a knee injury that sidelined me for a couple of years. After months of physical therapy, I still hadn’t returned to peak condition, and I was deeply concerned about my future—whether I would be able to teach or perform again. However, I was determined to do everything in my power to return to the art I loved. Instead of dwelling on the uncertainty, I focused on rehabilitation and pushing myself beyond what I thought was possible. Now, my knees are even stronger than before the injury, and the experience taught me resilience and renewed my appreciation for dance.
